Do you doubt you can hula hoop? Unfortunately, you’re NOT alone. Several times a week, for the last 12 years, I run across those who WANT to pick up a hoop and start learning, but they have SERIOUS doubts about actually doing it. I meet them in person, on social media or even in an email they sent to me. After all this time, I see the same recurring reasons, too. So, here are the top 5 reasons women don’t start hooping…and they are all misconceptions…only EXCUSES…because just as Marie Forleo says, “Everything is figureoutable!”

I’m not going to go into too much detail, because in THIS Facebook “live” I knock down each excuse and give you solid advice as to WHY they are ALL just assumptions…beliefs that are SO far from the truth…so listen up…

You’ve never been able to hula-hoop

As I say in the video, you don’t know what you don’t know. You need the right size hoop (much bigger than a little toy hoop…but also, NOT SO HEAVY, because those “weighted hoops” aren’t usually big enough, and more importantly, they can hurt). You also beed to be taught what to do with your body, the way I teach, understanding how to hoop safely, with correct posture and awareness, …breaking down everything into bite-size chunks. This is how I help you.

You’ve got a bad back (or shoulder/s, knee/s, hip/s, etc…)

Please listen to the video. I go into reasons WHY hooping is good for your body and very therapeutic, ESPECIALLY as we age. The truth is that the hoop can be used as a very gentle wellness partner low/no impact exercise. You must be taught how to do that…it’ my specialty.

You don’t have enough space

THIS excuse is just your limited thinking. I explain more in the video about opening up your mind to ideas…and for goodness sakes, going outside is also the way to get the MOST out of your hooping. You can certainly hoop inside, and while weather may be a factor as to why you must be indoors, if you love hooping, your CAN & WILL figure out a way to keep doing it no matter what.

You’re too old

OK, girl. JUST STOP IT! When someone says this, I just say I’m almost 60, and I didn’t even START hooping until I was 47…plus I teach many clients for the very first time who are in their 60’s, too. As we get older, we NEED to feel younger AND keep moving. A hoop is you KEY to do both at the same time. So good for our brain, challenging us to have to learn new skills at the same time we are getting in movement. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN HOW TO USE A HOOP! Listen to what I am saying in the video.

You don’t have rhythm or the “hips” for it

Nope, you don’t need EITHER of these. The hoop has it’s own rhythm, as it repetitively spins over and over…and your HIPS have nothing to do with waist hooping. I teach you to ISOLATE (not move) your hips…YES…you DON’T swish your hips in a circle when you are learning as a beginner.  It’s easier to understand while you watch me in the video here…better yet, I explain SO much more in my FREE VIDEO TRAINING, so you might want to get that!

I also have a FREE Facebook Group, Hooping Over 50 With aRoundJoy, where you can learn lots more about what it’s like to get started hooping with me. Lots of informative “live” videos from my Facebook page, all posted where you can ask questions directly to me, plus get access to group offers, sales and discounts as I pop them into the group. It’s simply a way for you to get more specific information and support if you are serious about wanting to learn from me!

So have you ever had any of these reasons (or any others) running through your head? If you’re wanting to hoop, but are not doing so yet, what’s stopping you? I’d love to hear more. Please comment below or pop over to my Facebook page and comment on the video.

Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know. I’m here to help you learn, so you will know…and in the words of Maya Angelou…”when you know better, you’ll do better.”
