FAQs and Student Form

FAQs

Who can train with aRoundJoy®?
aRoundJoy® private hoop training is for both women and men! Training sessions are available for primarily adults (18 & up). Please note that children (10 & up) must take session with an accompanying adult. Each individual completes and signs a Liability Waiver prior to training. Copies of this form are also available at The HoopShack® when you arrive.
Does aRoundJoy® offer hoop classes?
No, not traditional workout “classes” like you’d take at a gym. aRoundJoy® offers only private sessions at The HoopShack® in-person, however 2 people can train together, but the pricing is still the same for each person individually. Because training is private, curriculum content and concepts vary based on client needs, goals and abilities. There’s lots of individual attention. Instruction is customized so you are always successful and you will learn how to use a hoop for maximum benefit and results. Small group sessions are seasonally offered to clients for additional study & practice time. These clients are already trained in aRoundJoy® Basics, so while the sessions are similar to classes,  you must have some previous aRoundJoy® training knowledge and skill to attend.
Does aRoundJoy® offer VIDEOS?
YES! aRoundJoy® offers a 24/7, ON DEMAND, “members only” online hoop training area, HoopShack-to-gO.  Currently there is one video training product – an organized and comprehensive HOOP-AT-HOME course in that membership area called aRoundJoy® Basics. It’s always available for purchase in the STORE . If distance prevents you from coming to train in-studio, then you can learn and train anytime with all the videos and handouts that are part of the course. This is the same course that is given as a home-study guide to in-studio clients who purchase and commit to 3 sessions or more.
When is The HoopShack® open?
The HoopShack®, an exclusive hoop studio inside a private “guest house” is primarily open by appointment for private training and hoop sales, but can be open at other times for small group sessions and practices. This studio is used for hoop instruction and a limited number of pre-made hoops are available for purchase. Weekly group trainings are sometimes seasonally held at specified times, but those are pre-scheduled among existing clients only and can be cancelled if no one is attending.
What should I bring?
Please bring WATER, a sweat towel & a positive attitude to The HoopShack®!
What should I wear?
Tennis shoes/sneakers & exercise apparel MUST be worn to at The HoopShack®. COTTON fabrics are more hoop-friendly than nylon, so please try to wear those natural fabrics. Gloves (vinyl/leather w/ “grip”) are a good idea for beginners, also. They help to protect the back of the hand while practicing off body hoop moves, allow for better grasp of the hoop and during winter, they help keep hands warm while outside. Look for a weight lifting type of glove, with the fingers cut off. These gloves are not required, but can be very beneficial for comfort and success.
Can I bring a visitor or my young child to a training session?
No. Hoop training sessions are closed to outside visitors and babysitting is not available. If someone wants to attend training with you then they will need to purchase a session, as well. This can be beneficial, because watching and learning is sometimes the way a person can learn best, either for themselves or to help you both understand more when you go home and practice together.
What if I don't own a hoop yet?
No worries. Hoops are supplied for your very first session, to allow for sizing & training success. You’ll need to purchase a hoop after the session so you can practice & hoop daily at home! If you already have an adult size hoop, please bring it with you, as well. However, remember…we don’t use child size “toy” hoops, as they are not appropriate for learning basic hoopdance moves with aRoundJoy®; smaller, durable hoops will be used for some training during sessions, when applicable, and they are also available at The HoopShack®.
Do you sell hoops to anyone, even if they don't train with you?
Yes. Absolutely! You can design a completely custom hoop and we’ll finalize the details by phone/email. Visit the STORE to get inspired.
Do hoop training packages and sessions ever expire?
Yes. A 3-session Private Training package expires in 60 days.
How soon can I attend a small group training?
Since the seasonal, weekly small group training sessions are exclusive for experienced clients, attendance depends on your skill level, practice and dedication. If your goal is to attend more group sessions, then your private training will be geared towards learning the very basic skills that will allow you to be successful in group instruction. The time it takes varies greatly from one individual to the next and many factors play into this. If you are interested in attending group instruction, this needs to be a primary focus and your individual hoop practice will need to reflect that. With consistency and hard work, it could take a very short time for you to be ready for group hoop training. While in the process of learning privately, you can also attend any seasonal Woo-Hoop HoopJams that might be offered, which will give you some access to the group experience.
What is a Woo-Hoop HoopJam?
This is an open practice session with minimal instruction at The HoopShack®. Clients with various levels of expertise, from beginner to veterans, come together for play, sharing, fellowship and FUN! These take place outside in the yard at The HoopShack or sometimes we head to a local park – so, weather permitting, HoopJams are held seasonally as special bonus sessions allowing for extra group interaction.
