I’d like to tell you about my FIRST experience hooping on a Stand-Up Paddleboard – SUP – and it was WAY more of an eye-opener than I expected! Now, go with me here…I’ll keep this pretty short, and let the video below do most of the talking! One thing I want you to keep in mind, though…I’m 59 years old and this is a little “bucket list” thing I wanted to try. It’s a start. Finally.

Would you believe me if I told you we had not ONE, but TWO Stand-Up Paddleboards? Hubby and I got them online (see them in my AMAZON Store HERE) as a Christmas present to each other one year. It’s true, and they literally have sat in storage, unused, for over 2 years, I’m sad to say. Isn’t that terrible? I know…right?? You just might be nodding your head in agreement, because you too, have things stashed away that you buy but never use…OR you are completely SHOCKED that I haven’t hooped on one of those babies by now!

Oh, it was my intention to ABSOLUTELY hoop on one…but…life kept happening. For one reason or another, we always missed the chance…we’d let all the good weather pass and THEN use the excuse it was too cold outside…but NOT THIS SUMMER!

Yes, you can see I’m in our POOL to practice on the board, but that was the plan all along. It would be something my hubby and I could do together, sharing one board at home to get used to it, then taking both to the lake…eventually.  For safety, I won’t be doing this ALONE in the pool, for sure…the board moves quickly in the circulating water and I wouldn’t want to risk falling over onto the deck if the board hit the edge suddenly…as long as my husband’s there to help me stay somewhat centered, I feel completely safe, though!

I’ll be doing a lot of practicing, for sure, until the cold weather arrives…because now that I’ve done it, I LOVE it!! I’d also like to make it out to a lake at some point soon, as well – to start paddling AND hooping…and definitely be doing it more regularly by next spring/summer! Like I said, this is a start.

HERE’S what I learned after just ONE day of getting on that SUP with my hoop…I’ll list out a few key points, then you can watch the video and see things for yourself…

  • SUP hooping is a WONDERFUL illustration of WHERE the power for WAIST HOOPING comes from (the legs) and THIS is a KEY point in how I teach you waist hooping.
  • Hooping on a SUP actually MAGNIFIES the core work of hooping, multiplying it several times…I can FEEL it in my abs even MORE than hooping on the ground.
  • Both on-body AND off-body hooping moves can be done on a SUP, and the whole time, you are getting that extra CORE work, no matter what you’re doing with the hoop.
  • In open, still water, like at a lake or river, it would be somewhat easier, I imagine…since the pool water is constantly moving/circulating, plus sloshing around the edge of the pool, there’s constant movement of the board, unless my husband lightly holds it in place…so, THIS demonstration was probably a little more difficult than it had to be.
  • This is definitely NOT something for a complete beginner – with a hoop OR a stand-up paddleboard – but it IS possible, with a partner and practice.

Besides being entertaining, I hope this video from my FACEBOOK PAGE helped you understand more about waist hooping. Remember, you can ALWAYS get the 4 free videos I mentioned as my GIFT…they will help you learn exactly what I am talking about in this video – from body posture & foot stance, to the correct size hoop – simply by putting your name and email below, or by going to my FREE TRAINING page HERE.

I’d love to help you learn to enjoy hooping…effective, low-impact exercise that feels more like a party than a chore…and you can do it…well…ANYWHERE…this proves it! You don’t NEED to learn waist hooping, though…as you saw in the video, there’s off-body moves that are very beneficial for the body. Daily dynamic stretching (fluid movement) is amazing with a hoop, giving you the same benefits of yoga and pilates, without laying on the ground! I hope you’ll think a little outside-the-box and let me show you more!
