I’m Giving Back
After 8 years in business, I’ve reached a point where I want to reach more families while giving back to a worthy cause that’s near and dear to my heart. My youngest son, who was diagnosed with autism at age 3, is now a young man, working for an amazing non-profit technology company that is changing the game for adults on the autism spectrum. It’s called nonPareil Institute. This year, I’ll donate more hoops and instruction class time to support nP crew & staff in having fun together and getting more active! The company has changed my son’s life and has been such a blessing for him. Learn more about his journey HERE. You can also read more of our stories in my entire autism blog archive HERE.
Yes, I was once a young mother of two special, challenging sons, one with autism an the other with ADHD, so I have much to share with you and much to be grateful for. Even before I became a hoop instructor, I was passionate about helping other families who may be struggling–giving tips and suggestions, sharing stories and laughs. Now that my sons are grown adults, 29 and 32 years old, I have their lives to tell you about…how they got to where they are now…how I survived being a mom through the school years…and now with honesty, a hoop and some laughter, I can also help YOU help not only yourself, but your child, and your family.
We are currently facing an epidemic of obesity in our country. We ALL need to move. The hoop allows you to get up and do just that. When it comes to working with children, whether they have special needs or not, music and movement are both creative, engaging activities. Adults need to learn how to use the hoop to help them communicate and play with children, while at the same time, reduce stress and add some exercise to their day. I can provide BOTH the parenting and the hoop experience!
There are also more and more children being diagnosed with autism and ADHD. I have been where the parents of these kids are and I remember it all too well. Granted, it was years ago and there were not many options for therapies and treatments. So how did we cope? How did we NOT get frustrated and angry? Truth is, we didn’t…and we did, but I’m here to tell you one thing for sure: we never focused on what our boys COULDN’T do! We looked at their strengths and made sure they got to use them…and to this day, they are both still doing just that! We mainly focused on the joy in our journey and used a sense of humor as our compass.
How You Can Help
Of course, purchasing hoops and hoop training from aRoundJoy is the best way to help me give back and I’m grateful to all my clients for all of their support each and every day. Also, keep in mind that I could speak to your group or organization. I appreciate any opportunity to share my message and nonPareil’s mission, trying to accommodate your request in my schedule. Please CONTACT
me about a brief presentation for your school, organization, group or business. This would be helpful for parents, grandparents, teachers and any other professionals that work with children and/or families. With my parenting history and my passion for sharing an engaging activity like hooping, it truly becomes an educational, informative program on several levels.
You can certainly tell by now that I’m excited about getting everyone hooping…women and men of various ages…you are never to old to reap the benefits. I believe in helping everyone see the positive, practical applications and beneficial effects of hooping. When kids see parents, grandparents, teachers and those “aRound” them active, happy and moving, then THEY will start to move, too. Even children who have developmental challenges need good role models for this. They need to have activity in their lives, as do the individuals who work with them. It will naturally follow that if we all set an example for the younger generation, WE ALL will get healthier, too…physically AND mentally! It’s not only a joy, it’s a win-win!
