National Dance Day!

Saturday, July 27th is NATIONAL DANCE DAY sponsored by Dizzy Feet Foundation! Please get UP & MOVE with us! We’ll be doing this dance (some of us will even do it with our hoops, OF COURSE!) at the Splash Dash 5k, so if you are coming to that, then please join us! If you’re  NOT coming to that, then NOW you have a reason to COME and join in the fun! Meet us at the park and let’s dance!

UPDATE: WE had a blast! Here’s the video!

Our Fourth 4th!

That’s right!

aRoundJoy at The HoopShack will be celebrating it’s FOURTH appearance in the Arlington July 4th Parade  next month!

Honestly, if you would have asked me four years ago if I thought we’d still be hooping down the street on our nation’s most patriotic day, I can’t tell you WHAT I would have answered. It’s not that I didn’t have faith that I could keep my business going or that people were not going to come to take a hoop class. I simply wasn’t sure if I could get people to actually participate in something THIS public, WITH A HOOP!

BOY, was I wrong…

July 4th, 2012 we added my CAR!

July 4th, 2012 also featured more HoopShackers than we had ever had before!

How many HoopShackers will be taking to the streets of Dowtown Arlington with me THIS 4th of July? How will the Hoop Hard Core aRoundJoy Team represent the parade’s theme, “Emblems of the Land I Love” while using hoops?

Attend the  Arlington 4th of July Parade  OR tune in on local cable that day to find out! Look for us and shout “Hey, hoopers!!!!!”

We’ll be sporting our new Hoop Welcomes All statue of liberty shirts–all read. You can’t miss this party coming down the street!

Look at us! WHAT DO YOU THINK?!

Join us on Thursday, Feb. 14th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. as we participate in the Once Billion Rising, the opportunity to walk out, DANCE, RISE UP, AND DEMAND an end to violence against women and girls.

Today, on the planet, a billion women – one of every three women on the planet – will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends violated. V-Day REFUSES to stand by as more than a billion women experience violence.

One Billion Rising is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say, “Enough! The violence ends now.”

We invite you to come, hoop and dance with us and let us raise our spirits high to overcome and abolish violence against women in our world. ALL are welcome, men and women, brothers and sisters, boys and girls. This is a great opportunity to give hooping a whirl if you’ve wanting to try it. PLEASE JOIN US…it’s FREE!

It’s an Open House event, so come see our new larger space, and bring a friend! Let’s RISE UP and HOOP!

Come dance…in fact, learn the steps by watching the videos posted on YouTube…Debbie Allen teaches you how! YES!  Then, come add in the hoop a little to make it more fun! Well, you can try…sure you can!! I’ll show you how on Feb. 14th!  Hope to see you there!

UPDATE: Here’s video from the event! We learned the dance using the videos just below this one.

Here’s some helpful videos you can view here or on YouTube:

Do you light up the world?

Think about it. Do you light up the world? I do.

In fact, many of my friends do, as well!

This picture is from The HoopShack’s 3rd Anniversary Party…I decided to make it a GLOW party, to see if anyone would be interested in bringing their LED hoops….and well, you only need to look at the pictures to see we had a BLAST! To link to more photos taken at the party by one of the guys (yes, husbands came to the event, too!) visit the online ALBUM on The HoopShack’s Facebook page!

Another wonderful album of more pictures can be found at  and I want to sincerely thank Paul Knudsen for attending.  You got some WONDERFUL pictures to capture the JOY of that celebration! I know everyone there really appreciates it! You are not only a terrific photographer, but a great new hooper! I can tell you enjoy it, too, Paul…I see a LIGHT in your eyes when you simply talk about hooping! You are excited!

Yep, I light up the world with a hoop…and I also help light up everyone’s attitudes about what CAN be done for exercise! I fear I might be making a few husbands a little nervous about the collection of colorful, lighted circles their wives “need to buy” (these hoops can get expensive and are available online through several suppliers; I prefer ASTRAL HOOPS and you can find out more on my LINKS page) …but, I haven’t heard any complain…quite the contrary…I am fairly certain they enjoy seeing the woman they love happy, smiling, feeling youthful and vital…it’s really a beautiful thing!

Perhaps Pam Black, HoopShack student & friend, just commented on Facebook the best:  “What a good time. As much fun as skating as a child!!!”

You don’t need an LED to enjoy and benefit from hooping…but when you make the commitment and get one, you know you are addicted…and THAT is a VERY beautiful thing also! YOU just invested in a better, healthier life! I have had the privilege and honor to see almost 20 of my direct students get to this level of hoop addiction and THAT is what LIGHTS up MY world!

Stay tuned for the NEXT gLOw Party at The HoopShack soon!! It’s OFFICIAL! We WILL begin to do these regularly! After all, we have a WHOLE NEW WORLD to light up in the bigger space next door!

Yes, I’d say things are looking pretty BRIGHT for aRoundJoy at The HoopShack! 2013 is gonna ROCK, y’all…but first, be sure to look for us in the Arlington Holiday Lights Parade on December 1st!

Here’s a video from the event!
